The R-36M (SS-18 Satan) is the world's longest range Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) with a range of 16,000 km and altitude more than 1,200 km. Its speed is almost 8 km/second or 34,900 kph (Mach 28.5) and could carry 10 independent war heads with different target. With that kind of capapability, this missiles is almost unstoppable to destroy cities or aircraft carriers.
With a weight of 8.8t the R-36M is also the heaviest ICBM in the world. While US has the same kind of missiles.
If there is a World War III, is there any winner here?
The LGM-30 Minuteman-III is a United States land-based intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM). Its range is 13,000 km. It could fly with altitude 1,120 km and speed 24,100 kph. Each missile carries up to three nuclear warheads, which have a yield in the range of 300 to 500 kilotons.US has 450 Minuteman-III missiles.
China also has many ICBM missiles. One of them is the Dongfeng 5 or DF-5 a 3 stage Chinese ICBM. It has a length of 32.6 m and weight 183,000 kilograms. Its range is around 13,000 kilometers. It could reach any land in USA. The DF-5 is due to be replaced by the DF-41. The DF-41's speed is Mach 25 or 30,626 kilometers per hour. It could carry 10 nuclear warheads with different cities/targets.
German expert: Chinese DF-41 missile can penetrate US air defense.
None of the air defense systems the United States currently employs are capable of intercepting China’s newly developed DF-41 solid-fueled road-mobile intercontinental ballistic missile, reports the Berlin-based Die Welt.
Intercepting the DF-41 in the air is as challenging as trying to shoot a rifle bullet into another, Karl Josef Dahlem, chief advisor of air defense with the European guided weapons manufacturer MBDA, told Die Welt during an interview.
