How to Improve SEO and Increase Traffic to Your Blog

First of all, you have to make a good content/writings that will attract many readers to your site. Because if your writings are stink, then you can say goodbye to the world... :)
If you want to be on the first page of some key words you want, then the easiest way is make the keywords as your domain name and page title. Also write the keywords several times in the first paragraphs. Find the right key words for you.
For example, if you want to get the key words house for sale, then you could use domain name: houseforsale.com. And write several posts with title House For Sale. And write the key words in the first paragraphs.

It is also better if you use permalink. E.g., the link as follow:
http://talkandchats.blogspot.com/2013/11/map-of-usa-with-states-and-capital.html

is better than

http://talkandchats.blogspot.com/a.lang/384

Also use Page Title-Domain Name instead of Domain Name-Page Title.

Use Category, tags, and labels with the words you want.

Spread your articles with social media such as Facebook, Twitter, Google+, etc. Remember, use relevant forum wisely so you are not considered as spammers.

Do some blog walking and fill the comments and introducing link to your website.

It's better if your writing is around 300 words. It should be your original writing. Not just a plain copy paste from other website.
Write a hot or trending topic and spread it.
Use photos or images in your articles. Be careful of copy right photos or images. Use the licensed ones or create of your own. Don't forget to write the caption with your key words.

Try to write at lease 1 posting every day so your readers will visit your blog every day. This one is hard for me too since I have to work and play with my family... :)

Just never give up. You may rest for a while, but don't ever give up. Stick to the boring life as a blogger, then someday you will taste the peak of your traffic:

Your website also should fast enough. Not too slow. So avoid too much and too big images in your blog. Use the images wisely.
Use your email signature to promote your website. If you maintain a mailing list, FB group, pages, etc. then you could promote your blog there wisely.
